Hero's Journey

Hello and welcome to my last Humanities action project. In this project, I will be going through 8 stages of the hero's journey. The hero's journey is basically a shared trope between most stories with a hero 'discovered' by Joseph Cambell. In this Unit, we discussed what makes a hero other than their journey and we listed out our favorite hero stories.
This class was very special to me since I really enjoy writing and being creative. I enjoyed being able to create my own stories and even draw pictures of the characters. I look foward to using the character and story development tools I learned in this class in the near future.

I chose two heroes to compare; one real-life hero and one fictional. The real-life hero is my mother and she told the story of her moving my family out of our old neighborhood. The fictional character Ethan Morgan from My Babysitter's a Vampire. I chose this movie because it was a nostalgic Disney movie from my childhood. I chose to do my mother because she has many heroic stories from her life. Below Ethan's journey along with screenshots from the film.

Next up is my mom; her hero's journey is how she moved us away from our old neighborhood to a safer one.
Call to adventure
My mom's call to adventure was when she heard that our pastor who lived next door was held at gunpoint and robbed.
Refusal of call
At first, my mother did not want to leave and felt guilty because it was her childhood home that she was leaving.
Road of trials
For a while my mom was jobless before finding our new home, we had to move in with my grandmother.
Ultimate Boon
The ultimate boon was getting her new job at Family Rescue as a court advocate as well as getting our new home where we still live to this day.

Transcript
Can you tell me about your hero's journey?

Well, my journey, I don't know how heroic you can call it but, when I moved in with my mom into our family home in Roseland because I was pretty much houseless and without a job. So I would say that was they ground zero

What was your call to move from Roseland

I really felt bad about leaving the community because it was my childhood home, but I realized that it was very important for me to figure out a way to leave after our next door neighbor who happened to be a pastor within the community was held up at gunpoint and robbed. That was kind of a wake up call for me because our little family was my mother and my newborn daughter.

In the year 2518...( Lemur Edition)

Due to global warming, rainfall in the eastern hemisphere has increased. Most rainforests have completely flooded which has killed most bush bearing fruit. Bad news for the ring-tailed lemur; the only lemur who stays on the ground. Over time the rainforest floor will be completely barren and will not have anything for these lemurs to eat. They will have to learn to climb and fight against other tree-dwelling lemurs (and other) species.

Let's Meet the Lemurs

Now that you have met them, it's time to say good-bye. Only four lemurs have survived and here's why:
  • George has survived because of his ability to climb trees and cut leaves from those trees with his knife-like nails
  • Duke has developed a high pitch scream which scares off the competition
  • Nola long fingers, like George which
  • Kindi has light yellow eyes which don't reflect light during the night. This allows her to sneak around during the night.

Delillah the Dog

Hello and welcome to My second Action project for Stories. We learned about why different cultures tell fables and how a story could be passed down for so many decades. Fables are used to share values that people in each culture. Some values that I tried to put in my story were honesty, and learning about other before getting to close. In my story you will read about a trusting young pup who gets in a little trouble when looking for friends, I hope you enjoy.

TN "delilah the dog" 2018
Once upon a time, there was a dog named Delilah. Delilah was a puppy who was very kind and was very trusting of other animals. One day Delilah’s mother asked her to go on a run for errands.

“Delilah, would you please get some eggs, apples, and a ham from the store?”
“Yes, Mama” Delilah replied. “And don’t forget to wear your coat and your hat they will protect you from the cold”, her mother yelled after her.

Delilah put on her outside clothes and she was off. As she walked, she heard a voice

“Hey there, Delilah” the voice was soft and the words were slow and enunciated. “Hey Delilah, where are you going?” She finally recognized the voice. “Oh, hi Sylvester,” she said excitedly. Sylvester the snake and Delilah were friends. They went to the same school but he was older than her.
“I’m just going to the store to pick up some groceries for my mom,” Delilah said. “Oh well if you’re going to the grocery store you’re most definitely taking the long way”
“Really? I always take this way”

“Yeah yeah, this way take so long I’ll show you the short way! But, I’m so very cold, and your hat looks very warm. I can only go if you let me borrow it.”
Delilah looked at him reluctantly. Her mother told her to wear the hat for protection, but she did really want to get home soon. “ Okay, Sylvester here you go.”

She took off of her hat and immediately shook from the cold.

“Right this way Delilah,” Sylvester said, and he slithered along. “Say, Delilah” Sylvester asked, “could I borrow your coat? We are very close to the store but I can’t go any farther unless I can borrow it.” Delilah was already cold without her hat, but she really just wanted to get home. “Sure Sylvester, since we are close to the store.”

They finally arrived at the store “okay can I have my things ba-” . When Delilah looked for Sylvester he had vanished! Delilah began to cry, when she heard another voice, “Hi Delilah!” She was relieved to hear the quick and familiar voice of Freddy the Fox. “Delilah, why are you crying?” Freddy asked
“Sylvester took all of my warm clothes and when I came out of the store he was gone!” Freddy put a hand on Delilah’s shoulder “Well you know I have some warm clothes, but Delilah I’m so very hungry! My parents sent me out to get some food, and I lost all the money on the way. They would be angry if I went back with nothing” Delilah was nervous about giving Freddy all her food, but she was so cold she thought she would freeze. “Okay, Freddy as long as you bring back some warm clothes” Delilah’s hand shook as she gave Freddy the bag. Freddy ran away.

Delilah waited and waited for Freddy to get back until it got dark. She realized that she had no idea how to get home because of the “shortcut” Sylvester took Delilah began to cry.
A car pulled up and her mother got out “Oh Delilah! I was worried sick, what happened?”
Delilah told her mom about her unlucky day. “Well Delilah this is a lesson, Make sure you know others intentions before you trust them fully”
